Well done to the 5 Oakham physicists who received awards in the latest national Intermediate Physics Olympiad exams.
The competition, organised in association with Oxford University, is for the most talented physics students in the country and involves a one hour paper consisting of multiple-choice and short answer questions.
Lucas L received a Gold Award, after scoring 14% above the Gold Award Grade boundary!
Oliver M, Ethan T, Eddie M and Matthew C all received Bronze awards.
Teacher of Physics, Rob Johnson, said, “The pupils should be incredibly proud of their achievement. The competition is significantly more difficult than GCSE and is designed to encourage the pupils to develop their problem solving skills. Achieving an award is a genuine achievement and indicates that a student is able to work at a more advanced level.”
Each year, Oakham students are offered the opportunity to enter the British Physics Olympiad and the Senior Physics Challenge. Beyond these theoretical exams, Oakham also make uses of its extensive industrial links to open up engineering initiatives such as CREST and EES.
