The audience at All Saints’ Church were treated to a fantastic lunchtime concert on Wednesday 2 March by Form 4 music scholars Evie and Maya.
Evie began the programme of the Schumanns’ works with a beautiful rendition of Three Romances by the piano virtuoso Clara Schumann, moving the audience through each movement with confidence and conviction of performance. Schumann’s Three Romances each depict the ups and downs of romance and so demand a high level of maturity in phrasing and shaping. What a joy to hear a performer perform so stylishly, and only be in Form 4!
Maya followed with Robert Schumann’s Violin Sonata in A minor, a technically demanding piece, filled with many tricky passages; all of which were handled expertly. Maya captured the essence of light and shadow through her tone and touch, navigating each temperament with style and flare.
A fantastic performance from Evie and Maya, bravo!
