Congratulations to Riya and Yat Fei who have been announced winners of this year’s Art Scholars’ Christmas Card competition. Riya won with her design of a ‘Chapel Winter Scene’ and Yat Fei with a ‘Winter Wonderland’. Their designs will be used for the official Oakham School Christmas cards.
All the entries were of a very high standard, which gave the Headmaster a very difficult job of deciding the winners. Each piece was unnamed, and he did not know who had designed them.
Riya and Yat Fei were delighted their cards had been chosen for a second year running. Riya commented about her choice of design, “I really liked the idea of the chapel at Christmas and I thought it would look effective with warm lights glowing from the windows in an evening scene.”
Yat Fei has also taken the opportunity to sell some of his Christmas cards to pupils and staff raising funds for the ‘Kenyan Schools Project’, which supports primary schools in rural Kenya.
Oakham’s Art Scholars are encouraged to enter local and national competitions and enjoy extra mentoring and guidance from our experienced team of specialist teachers. They take part in special workshops and attend educational trips for inspiration. Their work is on display in exhibitions throughout the year.
