Form 6 Critical and Contextual Studies pupils enjoyed a fascinating talk given virtually by Meghan Goodeve on supporting emerging artists across the UK.
Director of Art Mrs Elinor Brass tells us more:-
“Meghan currently leads the Freelands Foundation Artist Programme, and she explained to the pupils about her role to help nurture artists. Much of Meghan’s experience is with organisations such as The Hepworth Wakefield, Yorkshire Sculpture Park, Leeds Art Gallery and Henry Moore Institute developing public programmes that engage audiences with art in interesting ways.
As part of the CCS course, students develop fictional exhibitions where they have to develop a public programme and it was extremely valuable for them to hear about the projects that Meghan has instigated and how effective these have been.
There were some lovely examples of projects that were worked on over a long period of time to develop some meaningful relationships between communities and the galleries. Meghan shared examples of street parties bringing art and community together as well as lots of fun projects where young people were involved. The students were able to ask questions and it helped them gain a deeper understanding of what galleries are seeking to do.”
