As the colder and damper weather approaches, drama students at Oakham School are getting ready to put on a show for the Main School Production of Singin’ in the Rain.
Rehearsals are now underway for what promises to be a showstopper of a performance, with one of the biggest casts Oakham School has ever seen. The classic musical follows the tale of Don and Lina, as they navigate the transition from silent films to the era of the ‘talkies’.
Whilst the power couple have repeatedly been cast as a romantic duo, Lina’s voice doesn’t match up to the standard of sound needed, so a bright and aspiring actress, Kathy, is hired to record over her voice.
The production is coming to the Queen Elizabeth Theatre at the School from Tuesday 30 November until Saturday 4 December.
Gilly Norell, Director of Drama at Oakham School, said: “We’re thrilled to be bringing the music and nostalgia of Singin’ in the Rain to Oakham and look forward to transporting our audience into an era of old-time Hollywood.
“Rehearsals are going very successfully, with our Oakham performers very excited for their first performance later this month.” To book your tickets for the performance, email theatretickets@oakham.rutland.sch.uk. Find out more about Drama and Theatre at Oakham School.
