The Oakham School Foundation Annual Lunch saw members of the 1584 Society and the Robert Johnson Legacy Society mark the success of coming together to achieve great things for Oakham School. The guests enjoyed a cricket style lunch in BAFS on campus.
Peter Lawson, President of the 1584 Society, gave an excellent speech, including details about Oakham’s past developments and future goals. He also reflected on Oakham’s values and said, “For me, …, the core values that make Oakham great are the same as when I was here as a pupil in the 1950s. As a Trustee of recent years, I have found that special Oakham spirit at the heart of the School is unchanged today.”
Henry Price, Headmaster, and Nick Priestnall, President of the Legacy Society, also delivered inspirational and thought-provoking speeches. Henry thanked all the donors for their continued generosity and spoke about the importance of bursaries and the Foundation’s supporters. Nick talked about the growing importance of legacies and his personal experience of working with them within the charity and education sector.
Following the lunch, guests had the opportunity to watch the first rugby and hockey sports fixtures of the academic year. These matches were of particular significance due to being the first interschool rugby and hockey fixtures to be held in the last two years.
Peter said, “The first post-Covid 1584 Society lunch in BAFS was a wonderful occasion. Happy memories of Oakham School past and present flooded the day. Just the right surroundings for a relaxed meal and an afternoon wandering around the pitches on both sides of Kilburn Road to see current Oakhamians in their finest rugby and hockey form. Many thanks to all who organised it.”
