The last week of term saw talented actors in Forms 4 and Form 6 put on a magical outdoor production of A Midsummer Night’s Dream to socially distanced audiences.
Over 200 people were fortunate to be entertained in the fairy land created in the Queen Elizabeth Theatre Quad over five nights and it was fitting to end this year with a play that focused on the chaos that ensued in the human world when Nature herself is disrupted.
The performances of Forms 4 and 6 blended perfectly, despite a huge proportion of rehearsals conducted online during lockdown, as well as everyone having to navigate socially distanced rehearsals upon their return to School. However, they defied the odds and put on a spectacularly successful show, which is a testament to the dedication and resilience of the young cast and crew. The collegiate camaraderie of the cast was obvious to all.
Director of Drama Gilly Norell said, “Our outdoor theatre was a huge success, and we would love to repeat this event in our Quad! Enormous thanks too, to our loyal audiences who were fully aware that, “The seasons alter … and the mazed world … now knows not which is which” – so ‘donned’ their blankets, coats and umbrellas; or sunscreen and parasols, to celebrate the achievement of this amazing group of students.”
