This past weekend saw success for Old Oakhamains Jack van Poortvliet (19) and Sam Costelow (19) playing in the U20 Six Nations, with England and Wales.
Jack, England captain, led his side to a rousing comeback against France. He put in a Man of the Match performance as England overcame a 19-3 deficit at half-time to win 38-22.
Sam proved the match winner in Wales’ 25-8 victory over Italy. Sam shone for Wales with an outstanding kicking display in the Cardiff rain, scoring 5 penalties and a drop goal to score 18 of Wales’ 25 points.
Congratulations to both on their excellent performances. Highlights of both matches are available to watch on the Six Nations website.
Jack and Sam are both in action again this Friday, 25 June, as England face Scotland at 14.00 and Wales face Ireland at 20.00. All the U20 Six Nations games are being played at the Cardiff Arms Park, and are being streamed live on BBC iPlayer.
In other Old Oakhamian sporting news, Matt Smith (04) has been confirmed as assistant coach to Steve Borthwick for Leicester Tigers, following on from a successful season as interim backs coach.
And in the cricketing world, Joel Tratt, our former Head of Strength and Conditioning, has joined the England camp as Strength & Conditioning Coach for their T20 & ODI series against Sri Lanka, which begins on Wednesday 23 June.
Congratulations to both Matt and Joel, we wish them the best of luck in their new roles.
