Congratulations to both Angelina and Varvara (both in Form 7) who were selected and have shot for England in the British Schools Small-bore Rifle Association international event against Wales, Northern Ireland, Scotland and the Channel Islands. This is the second year that Angelina has been selected and the 6th consecutive year Oakhamians have featured in the teams. Both girls shot exceptionally well with Angelina scoring 198 and Varvara scoring 190 out of possible 200.
Angelina also qualified for the British Schools Small-bore Rifle Association Championship individual Final and finished in 6th position.
Additionally, Varvara was placed 4th in the recent BSSRA Golden Jubilee Inter Schools challenge. 157 shooters entered and Varvara was just 1 point away from the medals.
Meanwhile George (Form 6) was selected to shoot for Wales for the second year running in the BSSRA international event.
Sam (Form 5), Michael (Form 7) and Archie (Form 5) all qualified for the Northamptonshire, Leicestershire and Rutland Target Shooting Association Junior Championship finals and then won the top 3 spots – first, second and third respectively.
Oakham School’s team of VIII and team of IV Small-bore target rifle shooters have qualified for the final in the Midland Schools Cup. At this time they are awaiting a suitable time to shoot the final round and hopefully retain the trophies.
Furthermore the following shooters have joined the Oakham School 100 Club by scoring the maximum points on a 5 Bull target: Amy (Form 4), Adam (Form 6), Georgina (Form 4), and Arabella (Form 5).
Mr Iain Reeves, Master in Charge of Shooting said, “It is fantastic seeing the pupils’ efforts being rewarded and recognised. Shooting takes commitment, composure and enormous skill and I am so proud of their achievements.”
