A remarkable lunchtime concert given by Form 7 ‘cellist

Form 7 ‘cellist, Findlay Marsh, treated the audience to an impressive performance of Camille Saint-Saëns’ Cello Concerto No. 1 in A minor at this week’s Music at Lunchtime concert. Accompanied by the Head of Piano, Anne Bolt, Findlay performed Saint-Saëns’ unusual work with character and finesse. A concerto in miniature form, the work is full of virtuosic passages for the cello: from the fluid triplet themes of the outer sections to the trills and atmospheric harmonics. Findlay both rose to the technical demands of the piece, and also let sing the grace and lyricism of the work in its central Allegretto.

This was a performance of soloistic flair combined with thoughtful musicianship- congratulations Findlay! Next week’s concert is given by Faith Taylor who will be performing a selection of piano works by contemporary composers.
