Alumni share career experience with pupils
The Old Oakhamian (OO) Club recently welcomed 18 alumni back to campus for the Upper School Networking Evening, during which they shared their knowledge, expertise and career experience with 60 Upper School pupils.
The evening began with pre-dinner drinks, and the Headmaster thanked the OOs for coming back and sharing their advice and wisdom. He also congratulated the pupils on taking a leap and attending an event of this nature, imploring them to make use of the resource on offer and see every conversation as an opportunity to learn and grow.
Between the main course and dessert, the current pupils were asked to switch tables to ensure that they had multiple conversations with people of different backgrounds, careers and interests.
Oakham School’s Alumni Manager, Joe Roberts, said, “It was a wonderful evening of good food, drink and conversation in the Barraclough. I would like to express my deepest gratitude to all the Old Oakhamians who attended the event. Participating pupils were grateful to and greatly benefitted from the alumni’s sharing on their invaluable working experience and job hunting strategies.” Joe continued, “It is our intention to make this an annual event so keep an eye on the OO Events page for next year’s iteration.”
Upcoming events organised by the OO Club include the Class of 2012 reunion on 19 November and the Christmas Drinks on 9 December. Please email the Alumni Manager, Joe Roberts, at ooclub@oakham.rutland.sch.uk for more information.
