Old Oakhamian Charlie Titcombe has signed for the Llanelli-based United Rugby Championship side Scarlets.
Fly-half Titcombe joins up with his former Oakham School and Leicester Tigers Academy teammate, Sam Costelow.
The move comes off the back of a stellar season with Loughborough University, helping to guide his team to a BUCS Super Rugby league title and winning the competition’s Player of the Season award.
Charlie briefly joined Worcester Warriors whilst still at Loughborough University, but his step into professional rugby looked to be in jeopardy following the Premiership club’s financial woes and eventual demise.
Returning to the Loughborough campus full-time while completing his bachelors degree, he committed to the University XV for the season, in a move which proved to have paid huge dividends.
Speaking to Talking Rugby Union, Charlie explained: “Obviously, at university, I wanted to get a degree, but the one thing I wanted to do was play professional rugby. I was pretty excited when the opportunity came up.
“I went down for a week when we had a week off from BUCS Super Rugby. The boys were really welcoming and an absolutely class set-up.”
