Oakham School Celebrates A-level and BTEC Results

17th August 2023

Oakham School is today congratulating its Form 7 (Year 13) Leavers on receiving their A-level and BTEC results.

Oakham School pupils achieved over two-thirds grades A*- B or equivalent at A-level and BTEC, an increase on the 2019 results and well above the national average. Against a national backdrop of post-pandemic tightening of grades, the cohort achieved a highly creditable 36% A* – A grades.

Today’s results follow a similarly strong set of results for Oakham School pupils in the IB Diploma, which included one pupil achieving a remarkable full 45 points score; one of just 25 candidates in the UK to do so.

Speaking about today’s results, Dr Leo Dudin, Deputy Head Academic, commented: “We are very proud of the results of this year’s cohort. To see our A-level and BTEC results surpass 2019 is a truly admirable achievement in the context of the last four years.

“These pupils were not only sitting their very first set of public examinations, but also experienced significant disruption and uncertainty during a pivotal time in their lives.

“This September, we are launching our Connected Curriculum, with extra teaching time allocated to A-level subjects to help embed knowledge and skills. We are confident that this approach will significantly benefit pupils’ understanding, enjoyment and outcomes.

“Our Connected Curriculum is carefully designed to interweave knowledge, skills and values across the academic, co-curricular and pastoral spheres, with a particular focus on proactive pastoral learning to equip all our pupils to help them flourish at school and beyond.”

Headmaster Henry Price added: “I would like to commend our Form 7 Leavers for their hard work and thank their parents and all the staff who have supported them in the classroom and beyond.

“The pupils can reflect with real pride at what has been achieved in the choppy waters of the last few years and look forward to exciting onward voyages at university and beyond.

“This rewarding year group has contributed so much during their time at Oakham in Music, Sport and Drama, as well as being great role models to our younger pupils. They have truly embodied our core values of care, courage and contribution and we hope that they will maintain their connection with each other and the School long into a happy and successful future.”
