Rui (Paul) Chang OO (’18) Shines at the US Amateur
Rui (Paul) Chang OO (’18) set the amateur golf scene on fire at the U.S. Amateur.
Paul, born in China, moved to England to join Oakham School, which is where he began his golfing journey.
Following his graduation from Oakham School Chang went on to enrol at the University of Virginia, majoring in computer science.
During his time at Virginia University over the past few years, Paul was unsuccessful in breaking into the Virginia Cavaliers men’s golf team.
Being relatively new to the game, starting in the last six years, this comes as no shock.
This all changed recently during the US Amateur where Paul overturned the world’s seventh-ranked amateur Caleb Surratt in the round of 32 whilst still being the only unranked player remaining in the competition.
Paul, unfortunately, got knocked out of the competition in the round of 16 on the nineteenth hole. He competed against some top golfing talents putting his name out there in the golfing community as one to watch.
Since performing so well at this competition, Paul has been selected for his debut season of varsity golf for The University of Virginia.
With two years left at Virginia, the eyes of the golfing world will be on him and the talent he has shown during these last few months.
