Music Scholar in Semi-Finals

The first round of the Nottingham Young Musician of the Year Competition took place yesterday, Sunday 8 October. One of our Form 7 pupils, Joshua, was part of the Higher Brass category and won his section. He will now play in the semi-finals, which are to be held on Sunday 19th November.

Joshua participated in the first round which took place at the Nottingham University music department. He was one of four brass players in his category; one cornet player, two trumpeters and Joshua on the horn. They each performed a programme of five minutes after which the adjudication took place. Joshua was praised for his command of the instrument, as well as his posture and contrast of sound. Joshua is a music scholar at the school who studies the horn with Jonathan Harris.

If you would like to hear him play, he will be performing at this week’s Music at Lunchtime recital, Wednesday, 1.30pm at All Saints church.
He will also be performing the Strauss Horn Concerto No. 1 with the school orchestra on Friday 10 November.  More information for this concert can be found here.
