Form 3 Art Day with Visiting Artists

On the 9th October, all of Form 3 had the chance to work with one of three visiting artists for half a day in an exciting workshop.  It gave them an insight into new ideas, approaches and processes and the impact of working for a more sustained period of time.

Those who chose the 3D option worked with Paul Raymond who is an artist and educator based in the North East.  He uses a variety of media and explores themes of nostalgia and play through his work.  In his workshop, the students created 3D pieces to explore ideas of play and memory as well as experimenting with some exciting digital approaches using iPads that considered new possibilities for their sculptural pieces.

Tansy Hargan led workshop two and she is an artist and lecturer in Landscape Architecture based in Sheffield.  She works with mark-making and colour in her practice, using her sketchbooks to collect snapshots of her experiences often developing them into abstract painting or textile pieces.  In her workshop, the students had the chance to play with combining fabrics, using paint and playing with the sewing machine to create marks.

In workshop three, the students worked with Amanda Davies who is an artist and teacher in the Midlands.  She uses vivid colours in her work, mixing together different processes such as screenprinting and stitch to create complex imagery which are often a blend of abstraction and detailed observation.  The students in her workshop had to chance to try screenprinting and developed collages inspired by rollercoasters.

It was a brilliant, energetic day full of new and exciting creative opportunities for the students.
