Last week, Oakham School’s U16 and U19 netball teams competed in the County Championships and returned as County Champions.
U16
Director of Netball, Lauren Nicholls explained the “real pride” she and the coaching team had for the performances of the team especially their enforcement during the semi final and final allowing them to qualify for the regional finals. Leadership all around, particularly from Betsy and Grace helped push the team over the line to become County Champions.
It has been difficult to continue the momentum with the majority of players having such a successful hockey cup run too, but they managed to switch it on on the day.
1st VII
The 1st VII showed a very impressive and positive squad performance with all 12 players having large impact and Bella being the standout shooter on the day.
The defence built pressure with every game and limited shooting opportunities for the opposition. The attack were on fire, with multiple options for the ball carrier and making it very difficult for teams to win the ball.
The team went on to beat Uppingham in the semi final before overcoming Ratcliffe in an intense final.
I was really proud of how the whole squad stepped up on court in some tough conditions to remain unbeaten. A clear statement of intent this term and I look forward to seeing how this team progresses next term!
