Critical Contextual Studies Trip to London

The Form 7 Critical and Contextual Studies students spent the day in London on the 10th of November to help them to gather inspiration for their Personal Investigation.

The students are working on devising a fictional exhibition so it was a chance for them to consider what works were on show, how they were presented and how each gallery supported the interpretation of the work.

As part of their projects, the students also consider public programming as well as the advertising of exhibitions so they were able to gather plenty of information on this too.  We started at the Young V and A which is a new gallery that opened in the summer.

The gallery is a branch of the Victoria and Albert Museum and specialises in objects by and for children.  From there we went to Whitechapel Gallery to see the temporary exhibitions on display.  Whitechapel Gallery has a reputation for excellence for learning in a gallery context and so it was a brilliant opportunity for the students to consider engagement in relation to their own devised exhibitions.

Finally we went to the Gilbert and George Centre which was established to share the work of the artists and offered the students a completely contrasting space to reflect upon.
