This afternoon, pupils in F2 had the pleasure of a session with author A M Dassu, whose book, Boy, Everywhere they all received before the start of the summer holidays.
After visiting us virtually for the last two years, it was a delight to welcome A M Dassu in person, to hear the stories that have inspired her to write and the advice she has for all of us about challenging stereotypes, being a good ally and understanding the power of the language used in the media.
This visit forms part of the connected work pupils have done this term around the topic of refugees in their English classes and through their Community Day, aimed at raising their awareness of, and empathy for, those who are forced to leave their homes.
It will also build into work on migration to the UK in History after Christmas and future F2 Community Days; thus forming connections between different subjects.
