Matt Hampson Award

For years, Oakham School has had a close relationship with The Matt Hampson Foundation and beginning in January, ten Form 6 pupils will be able to participate in the Matt Hampson Award within their activities slot.

The award was created to give opportunities to young people to develop their skills in preparation for the life ahead. The primary goal, however, is to support local charities by raising awareness volunteering and fundraising.

Oakham School is one of three schools participating in the new Matt Hampson Award.

Firstly, pupils will select from several ways to volunteer within the MHF for 8 hours over a time frame of their choice.

Following this the pupils will participate in training to further develop the skills to Lead, Drive diversity and inclusion, and Thrive under pressure.

To develop skills to lead, pupils will participate in 8 hours of interactive experimental learning to develop the skills to lead oneself and others.

Pupils will also engage in 8 hours of development with a diversity and inclusion expert to help pupils understand the importance of and the best practice when driving for inclusion.

Training to thrive under pressure involves 8 hours of evidence based emotional resilience training to help bounce back from future setbacks.

Throughout the weeks the pupils will be tasked with a written project in which they will assemble a weekly journal to reflect on their work and to spark thoughts on how they are going to bring these skills forward in life.

Following this the ten pupils will be taking these skill newly honed skills forward into a fundraising project. The higher the amount raised the greater the award.
