Competitions, Concerts, Charity and Christmas in Lower School

14th December 2023

Lower School Houses have had a busy second half of the Winter Term filled with competitions, concerts, charity and Christmas celebrations.

In November Ancaster and Sargants held a joint bake sale and raised nearly £500 for Working Together, a charity that offers support to individuals with learning disabilities and autism. Continuing the charity theme, Lower School pupils donated gifts to the Salvation Army Christmas Present appeal, helping children who might not otherwise receive a Christmas present this year.

The pupils in Lower School enjoyed the opportunity to showcase their musical talents in front of an audience of family and friends at two concerts held in the School’s Chapel. Lower School Live in Concert saw performances from the Lower School Choir, Cantamus, various ensembles and soloists. In addition to this, pupils in Forms 1 and 2 presented what they had been learning in their curriculum lessons with the Form 1 Singers performing two songs ‘Fast Car’ and ‘O Waly, Waly’ by Jonathan Dove and Form 2 demonstrating their skills on the samba and djembe drums.

The Lower School Choir was in fine voice again a few weeks later at Carols by Candlelight when they performed a selection of Christmas carols within the service of six lessons and carols. There was also a world première of a new arrangement of ‘Away in a Manger’ written by Director of Music Peter Davis.

On the final Friday of term, PH and Sargants went head to head in the interhouse rugby. They played several competitive and well-contested games, with PH emerging as victorious overall. Later in the day, all members of Lower School enjoyed some festive fun at their Christmas party. Pupils enjoyed a hog roast and hot chocolate outside, followed by a variety of entertainment within the four Lower School Houses, including games, quizzes, and a disco to round off a very full term.
