A Fantastic New Addition to the History Corridor
The History Department has a long-term plan to have a striking image in each history classroom each with a slightly different focus.
Mr Roberts’ classroom has this iconic image of Winston Churchill
Ms Knightbraid has an image of Gloria Steinem and Dorothy Pitman Hughes of The Women’s Liberation Movement in which they are giving the black power salute.
Another classroom’s wall holds a reproduction of Stalinist propaganda which celebrated the link between Marx, Engels, Lenin, and Stalin.
Form 7 All-Rounder Scholar Howie and his father Matt, took on the task of producing the fourth striking image.
Howie showed his passion for art along with his ability to transform School spaces last year when producing this fantastic mural within the Barrow House common room, filled with House pride.
After facilitating the wall art in House, Mr Edwards, Barrow tutor and history teacher, approached Howie and asked whether he would be keen to bring his skills into classroom spaces.
Howie and his father, after being given n example of the image, took the art into their own hands, putting their own spin on the work and began planning the process.
Stage 1: Project and trace the image onto paper
Stage 2: Cut out the stencil
Stage 3: Attach the stencil to the wall
Stage 4: Spray
Stage 5: Peel off and reveal.
Over the Half-term break, both worked hard over three days to complete the work which in turn led to this important moment in history being well represented on the classroom wall, ready for the return of pupils after the Half-term.
