Fees, Discounts and Bursaries

The termly fees for the academic year 2024-2025 are shown below.

Our fees include:

All tuition, textbooks and the majority of options in the activities programme.
Breakfast, lunch, and supper for all students (day pupils: from Monday morning – Saturday lunchtime; boarders: all meals during term time).
Access in termtime to the Medical and Pastoral Centre, Sports Centre, and library.
Boarding and laundry charges (full and weekly boarders).

A few variable expenses and certain optional extras are charged on the School Account as necessary, such as trips and expeditions, external examination fees, individual Learning Support and individual music and drama lessons.

Payment of fees is due on the first day of the School term.

You can pay by bank transfer, cheque, or direct debit (four monthly payments per term).

We charge tuition and boarding fees termly in advance. Accounts are payable either on or before the first day of term, or by means of our direct debit scheme, which splits the core fees for each term into four monthly instalments.

Direct Debit Instruction
The School operates a scheme whereby a lump sum payment may be made to cover future day or boarding fees. The scheme is beneficial for higher rate taxpayers as, provided the proceeds are used to pay school fees, the discount gained on the capital sum is completely free of tax. Discounts on Fees

For children of HM Armed Forces and Government Service personnel: If your family is entitled to receive the Continuity of Education Allowance (CEA) from the Ministry of Defence, the Oakham School Forces Bursary will reduce the fees for boarding to the full CEA rate + 10% of the allowance. Bursaries

Parents of scholarship applicants who believe an Oakham education is beyond their means may apply for a means-tested financial support through the School’s bursary funding scheme.

Whilst Scholarships give limited financial support, there is no upper limit to the value of bursarial support; however, the number of bursaries available in any one year does depend upon funds available.

Assistance is not normally available for flexible boarding places in the Lower School. Larger awards are normally reserved for 13+, 14+ or 16+ entry.

We offer two places for The Oakham Foundation Award, which is a means-tested scholarship specifically designed for pupils and families who would otherwise not consider an education at Oakham School. These awards are for 11+ (Year 7) and/or 13+ (Year 9) entry.

Recipients of an Award will be exceptional, academically driven, empathetic, bright, and respectful, with a desire to discover new talents and enhance themselves and the Oakham Community. Candidates from the Midlands will be prioritised. Families applying for this Award will typically receive Government support or have a family income of less than £25,000 per annum.

Candidates will need to sit assessment tests, which will include scholarship-style papers in Mathematics and English. They will also have an interview with the Headmaster and one other member of senior staff, in which they will demonstrate drive and ambition for themselves and others. We will also take up a personal reference from their current school.
