Middle School (Years 9-11)

Following on from our bespoke Lower School curriculum, Form 3 (Year 9) pupils study discrete subjects, including separate sciences, languages and humanities subjects, with interdisciplinary projects built into the curriculum to enable them to make connections in their learning. For example, pupils complete a mini research project on Warfare and Medicine that applies their work in History on World War 1 to their studies in Biology, where they are taught the science of blood transfusion. This is further developed in Design Technology, where they are challenged to think about the design of portable medical equipment, using materials only available in 1916.

The Form 3 Project gives pupils a chance to apply their knowledge and skills outside the classroom through a wide variety of experiences that include a visit to the First World War battlefields in France, performing at a prestigious venue in the annual Gala Music Concert, completing a library-led independent research project, and a summer activity camp.

Pupils make their GCSE subject choices supported and guided by our expert teachers and Careers Department. There is an exciting variety of subjects for pupils to study.

All pupils take English Language, English Literature, Science and Mathematics and then have the opportunity to tailor their curriculum by making bespoke choices of subjects to suit them; History, Geography, Religion and Philosophy, French, Spanish, German, Drama, Dance, Music, Art, Design and Technology, Citizenship Studies, Classical Civilisation, Computer Science, Greek, Latin and Physical Education.

In some of the subjects we have selected to follow the IGCSE syllabus, which we consider a better qualification at this level. They have equivalent status to GCSEs for universities and employers.
