Celebrating Bronze and Silver DofE Achievements

05th February 2025

Oakham School celebrated the Bronze and Silver Duke of Edinburgh (DofE) achievements of 30 of its pupils at the School’s inaugural DofE Awards Ceremony.

The event began with a lively reception in the Barson Gallery, where guests enjoyed refreshments before moving to the Wilson Auditorium for the official awards presentation. Headmaster Henry Price welcomed the audience, and DofE Manager Sarah Fearn shared some DofE highlights of the past year, showcasing the pupils’ hard work and commitment.

Francesca, Form 7 student and one of the School’s four DofE Young Leaders, received special recognition for recently completing her Gold Award. Francesca will be awarded her certificate at Buckingham Palace in the spring.

Each pupil was proudly presented with their bronze or silver certificates and badges, followed by an inspiring address from adventurer and intrepid explorer, Laura Bingham, who joined live from Costa Rica. She captivated the audience with tales of her ground-breaking expedition to locate the source of the Essequibo River – the largest river in Guyana – and make a world first descent by kayak.

The event was a true celebration of perseverance, teamwork, and adventure, embodying the spirit of the DofE Award.
