Congratulations to our Class of 2024 on all their achievements and to this year’s International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma cohort on their excellent exam results, which are a testament to their hard work and commitment, along with the knowledge and skills they have gained from choosing this holistic educational programme.
At Oakham, our Sixth Form pupils choose their own pathway through their final two years and by offering the IB Diploma, A-levels and BTEC we provide the opportunity to choose the route that is right for them.
This year, several of our IB Diploma pupils achieved an impressive 40 or more points out of a possible 45, regarded as exceeding 4 A* grades at A-level. One pupil scored an outstanding 44 points, illustrating a depth of knowledge and a mastery of academic skills that is exceptional. There were impressive successes across the board, with an increased percentage of pupils gaining 7-6, equivalent to A*-A at A-level. The cohort average has increased from last year, and results again exceed the global average.
Dr Leo Dudin, Deputy Head Academic, said “We think the IB Diploma is an excellent course for all abilities, as the results this summer indicate, and there are many individual success stories that are testament to the hard work of pupils over the last two years. The IB Diploma structure helps, ensuring pupil build momentum and develop their confidence as the course progresses. Through this, ambitions are raised and exciting opportunities realised.
We believe the course is an excellent preparation for university studies. Learning to balance the various strands of the course requires pupils to develop their self-management skills in a unique manner, something that serves them well when faced with the independence of university studies. Pupils who have studied the IB Diploma start university studies in great shape. They quickly build firm foundations and enjoy their chosen course, both in and out of the lecture theatre. Again, the academic confidence they develop through the IB Diploma is invaluable.”
