Form 6 Critical and Contextual Studies group welcomed curator and educator Meghan Goodeve via Teams, who gave a talk about her career. Meghan currently leads the Freelands Foundation Artist Programme, supporting emerging artists across the UK.
Director of Art, Elinor Brass, tells us more:
“Meghan talked about her role of nurturing artists. Much of Meghan’s experience is working with organisations such as The Hepworth Wakefield, Yorkshire Sculpture Park, Leeds Art Gallery and Henry Moore Institute to develop public programmes that engage audiences with art in interesting ways.
As part of the CCS course, students create fictional exhibitions where they have to develop a public programme and it was extremely valuable for them to hear about the projects that Meghan has instigated and how effective these have been.
There were some excellent examples of projects that developed some meaningful relationships between communities and the galleries. Meghan shared examples of street parties bringing art and community together as well as lots of fun projects where young people were involved. The students were able to ask questions and it helped them gain a deeper understanding of what galleries are seeking to do.”
