Oakham’s U19 and U14 netballers enjoyed some extra professional advice ahead of the National Finals next weekend from England and Loughborough Lightning players Jess Shaw and Vicki Oyesola.
Jess led the U14A girls through an attacking masterclass. The girls were put through their paces when focusing on ‘through court attacking play’, early positioning, change of speed and first time ball into circle.
Meanwhile Vicki gave the U19 girls a defensive masterclass. The session featured plenty of contest, and the girls worked with intensity on their ‘through court defence’ and defensive switches in the circle.
Teacher of PE, Issy Beighton said, “The U14A girls made some excellent improvements as the sessions progressed. It was also a great opportunity for the U19 team to make some technical adjustments to the defensive unit ahead of the Nationals next weekend!”
Issy continues, “I’d like to thank Jess and Vicky, who are Loughborough Lightning teammates of Oakham’s Director of Netball, Lauren Nicholls, for taking the time to work with the girls and inspiring the next generation of netballers!”
Oakham’s U14 and U19 teams have now reached the National Finals for the 3rd year running. Hopefully the extra advice from two experts in their field will give the teams the competitive edge they need when they face their opponents in the final.
