Form 3 explore the Roman Baths
Form 3 Latin pupils recently embarked on a trip to Bath to visit its extensive Roman remains and museum. Form 3 pupil Jacob speaks about the experience.
“The Form 3 Latin pupils recently made their way over to Bath to wonder in the marvel of the Roman Baths for which it gets its namesake. The Baths are a wonder to us even now. They were constructed 2000 years ago, and it was clear that Roman designs were far ahead of their time.
Some trip highlights include the Spring, where Romans would bathe themselves for cleansing both physically and religiously, the frigidarium or cold room (which is where we get the word fridge from), and several statues of people important to Romans adorning the Great Bath.
We also viewed some artefacts that had been salvaged from the Baths such as coins and tablets containing curses which Romans would throw into the Baths in the hope of the Gods cursing the individual named on the tablet.
What made the trip even better was our trip leaders. Head Of Classics, Dr Leveritt, was a key for us as he told us some very entertaining facts about the history of the Baths. Accompanying him were the stellar Mrs Makey, Mr Favill and Mr Dook.
Overall, we had an amazing time, and we thank all who were involved.”
