Form 7 Music Scholars Excel Nationally
Congratulations to two of our committed Form 7 music scholars who have achieved notable national successes this week.
Archie has successfully auditioned to join the National Youth Brass Band of Great Britain as a bass trombonist. NYBBGB seeks to give the brightest young brass players in the country the opportunity to develop their musicianship, play together and inspire others. Having performed works by Guilmant and Roger Boutry in his recent audition, Archie will now have the chance to rehearse and perform regularly with NYBBGB in 2023, building on his regular work in both Oakham School ensembles and as a member of Youth Brass 2000, the current National Youth Brass Band Champions.
Pianist Jan has also learned that he has been selected as one of only six national finalists in the second ever Coach House Pianos School Competition as the representative of Oakham School. His videoed audition performance of Ravel’s Jeux d’eau (which he also performed successfully at the Autumn Concert) won him the opportunity to take part in a piano masterclass on Sunday 5 March 2023, and perform a 20-30 minute solo recital.
“We are hugely proud of both boys for these terrific national achievements on a national stage. They represent the large number of talented and committed musicians in our Upper School at Oakham who are terrific role models for our younger musicians, and we wish them every success.” (Peter Davis, Director of Music)
