On Sunday 12 March, three talented Oakhamian musicians competed in the next stage of the national Rotary Young Musician Compeition. All three had been put forward to the District Final after their excellent performances in the first round, and now found themselves competing in three instrumental classes against young musicians from the wide geographical area covered by Rotary District 1070.
Harriet performed first in the Junior section, and her violin playing once again impressed the adjudicators as she was chosen at the winner of her class.
Baker also triumphed in the Intermediate class, and he was praised for his flawless saxophone playing and for setting a terrific example to future applicants.
Joshua also played brilliantly in the exceptionally competitive Senior class, but was pipped to the post by a gifted pianist despite his dramatic and dynamic playing.
Baker was commended again by the adjudicators at the end of the day, and the Oakhamian musicians were proud to receive glass trophies form the Melton Rotary club in recognition of their accomplishment. Many congratulations!
