Geographers enjoy first field trip of their “Middle School careers”
Form 5 Geographers enjoyed their first field trip of their “Middle School careers” this week, travelling to Cambridge to carry out their research.
Alexis Dachtler, Teacher of Geography, who accompanied the group, tells us more about their trip:-
“The aim of the field work was to support the consolidation of their geographical skills and the inquiry process for their GCSE exam next summer.
Cambridge certainly impressed and inspired in the late summer sunshine, and pupils undertook a range of data collection tasks to help them understand the impacts of tourism as well as theoretical urban land use models. With gusto pedestrians were counted, the environment was surveyed and transects were diligently undertaken. No doubt their efforts to connect with the academic tasks and Cambridge will have inspired many a future geographer and aspiring university applications. The pupils will use the data collected to learn more about sophisticated data presentation and analytical skills in the weeks ahead.”
