Lord Neuberger inspires Upper School Politics pupils.

The Politics & International Relations Department hosted Lord Neuberger, former President of the Supreme Court in the United Kingdom, at the latest Upper School Torch Lecture.

Head of Politics & International Relations, Laurence Ward, speaks more on the recent visit.

We were honoured to host Lord Neuberger who kindly gave the Torch Lecture for the Politics & IR Department. He shared his great wisdom both as the previous Master of the Rolls and President of the UK Supreme Court. He was impressed by the insightful nature of the questions asked by the over 70 students attending. He was not surprised that some students were able debaters who had recently won MUN prizes at a Manchester Conference.

He spoke fondly of the UK democratic system but highlighted clear challenges which have happened and which we are yet to face.

He was keen to highlight the political impact of the Human Rights Act and Judicial Review. Abigail and Henry gave a welcome speech and a vote of thanks which was well received with the audience making light of his role as a member of the House of Lords and following the OO Lord Clarke into certain legal roles.
