Pupils in the Lower School have enjoyed a highly sociable second half of term full of sporting spectacles, fine food, and House fun.
On the first Friday of the half-term, pupils from all four Houses visited different restaurants in Oakham town, benefiting from the chance to eat together as a House. Ancaster and Lincoln girls dined at Sarpech and Jashir respectively, while Sargants and PH boys enjoyed some traditional pub food at The Angler and The Hornblower.
There have been further foody treats this term in the form of a House breakfast, plus doughnuts and sausage rolls as rewards for excellent work and behaviour. Lincoln and PH also held a highly successful and delicious cake sale for Red Nose Day, raising £400 in the process.
As well as competing in interhouse hockey, swimming and netball, Lower School pupils also had the opportunity to travel to London to watch the U16 Girls’ Hockey team win silver in the National Finals of the Tier 1 Cup Competition at Lee Valley Hockey and Tennis Centre. With the memory of travelling to Twickenham to watch the 1st XV rugby team win the National Schools Cup last year fresh in their memory, it was great to have the chance to cheer on the girls in their hockey success.
As the weather has started to look more spring-like, the pupils of the Lower School Houses have also been relishing the chance to get Out Back at break and lunchtime. Skipping has seen a comeback with pupils from all Houses keen to make the most of Ancaster’s new skipping rope to have a go at this traditional playground activity.
