Music at Lunchtime: A Dazzling Display of Skill and Musicality

This week’s Music at Lunchtime recital was given by Form 4 music scholar, Ryan, who performed two solo marimba pieces Prism Rhapsody II by Keiko Abe, and Spanish Dance by Kai Stensgaard. He was joined by Gap Music Assistant Archie, who performed Lebedev’s Concerto No. 1 for Bass Trombone.

Ryan gave a captivating performance of two mesmerising marimba solo pieces. His rendition of Prism Rhapsody II showcased technical precision and passion in rapid passagework. The dynamic contrasts demonstrated Ryan’s ability to play with great sensitivity. His second piece, Spanish Dance, highlighted his versatility with a nuanced interpretation and technical expertise that left the audience in awe at his musical talent.

The concert also featured Archie, a standout musician who wowed the audience with his bass trombone skills. In Lebedev’s challenging single movement concerto, he demonstrated not only technical excellence but also a level of maturity in his musicality. His performance made a lasting impression on everyone in attendance, and we wish him well with his forthcoming music college auditions.

The recording from today’s concert is available online here.

Next week’s ‘Music at Lunchtime’ concert will be a vocal recital given by music scholars Shonali (Form 5) and Sofia (Form 7).
