This week’s Music at Lunchtime recital was given by music scholar Nicola in Form 5 with an impressive performance on the violin, accompanied by Head of Piano, Anne Bolt.
The recital opened with the first movement of Mozart’s Violin Concerto No.4 in D Major. Nicola’s clear articulation and steady sense of rhythm brought out the grace and lightness of this piece and was a fantastic start to her programme.
The second piece in Nicola’s programme was Romance from Henryk Wieniawski’s Violin Concerto No. 2 in D Minor. Nicola’s interpretation was both heartfelt and technically assured, with carefully shaped phrases that brought out the longing and warmth in the music.
Nicola’s recital finished with Mendelssohn’s Allegretto non troppo – Allegro molto vivace from his Violin Concerto in E Minor. Her thoughtful phrasing in the Allegretto led effortlessly into the sparkling, energetic Allegro, where her technical command and light bowing brought Mendelssohn’s joyful spirit to life.
Congratulations to Nicola on a fantastic performance of some challenging works for the violin.
