Music at Lunchtime: A Showcase for Violin
This week’s Music at Lunchtime recital was given by two Music Scholars from Form 4, Millie and Faith, who performed a selection of music for violin, accompanied by Anne Bolt on piano.
Millie paired Jean Sibelius’ deep, expressive Romance with Frank Bridge’s furious Moto Perpetuo from his Three Dances. Faith took to the stage with Fritz Kreisler’s romantic Liebeslied, followed by Kreisler’s spirited arrangement of Percy Grainger’s Molly on the Shore. For their final piece, Millie and Faith joined together in Mátyás Seiber’s Four Hungarian Folk Songs for violin duet, a set of energised dances for two violins.
Congratulations to Millie and Faith – both performed their chosen pieces with great musicality and character and their closing duet made for a rousing finale!
The recording from the recital is available here.
Next week’s Music at Lunchtime recital is given by Form 6 Music Scholar, Ethan, who will be performing music for cello by Beethoven and Kabalevsky.
