This week’s Music at Lunchtime recital was given by Form 5 music award holder, George, who performed music for alto saxophone, accompanied by Head of Piano, Anne Bolt.
George’s programme portrayed a fusion of classical and contemporary compositions highlighting his ability to navigate different musical styles with skill and flair. Beginning with Respectfully Yours by Andy Scott, George’s expressive playing immediately captured the audience’s attention. He followed this with a challenging contrast, Lawson Lunde’s Allegro vivace (Sonata for Alto Saxophone) which showcased his ability to work with his accompanist to convey the swift tempo changes and playful interactions of this piece.
Après un rêve by Fauré was again a contrast, with long expressive lines. This is a well-known work for voice and piano, and George brought the work to life on the saxophone. To conclude, the audience was treated to the jazz stylings of Closing In from John Williams’ composition, Escapades.
Congratulations to George for an accomplished performance of challenging pieces for alto saxophone. The recording from this recital can be viewed online here.
Next week’s Music at Lunchtime concert will be given by Ethan who will be performing Kabalevsky’s Concerto No. 1 in G minor for ‘cello.
