This week our Music at Lunchtime recital featured Form 7 pupil Halle performing songs by Roger Quilter as well as selections from West Side Story, The Girls of Summer and Oh, Kay!, accompanied by Cason Kang.
Halle opened with three songs by English composer Roger Quilter. By a Fountainside set a reflective mood with its themes of love and loss, which Halle captured with sensitivity. She then performed Dream Valley and Music, When Soft Voices Die, both poetic settings with introspective themes which highlight Quilter’s ability to convey emotion through music.
The programme then shifted to American musical theatre, beginning with Somewhere from Leonard Bernstein’s ‘West Side Story’. Halle delivered this well-known piece with clarity and expression. This was followed by The Girls of Summer by Stephen Sondheim, bringing a jazz-inspired energy to the recital. Halle concluded with Someone to Watch Over Meby George Gershwin, showing her affinity for jazz through subtle vocal embellishments and an expressive interpretation.
Well done to Halle for a thoughtful and varied programme.

Our next Music at Lunchtime recital will feature our talented Form 3 Music Scholars, Prince and Ethan, performing solos and duets accompanied by John Mountford.
