Oakham School welcomed back four Old Oakhamians – Becca Malyon (‘21), Hannah Moursi (‘18), Sassy Norton (‘18), and Ella Turner (‘21) – last weekend, as they joined our Form 7 netballers for some valuable match practice.
The Seventh Formers enjoyed their games with the alumni. All four Old Oakhamians played in attack and made some good connections on court, despite being the first time they had played together.
Director of Netball, Lauren Nicholls said, “It was great to see the OOs back on court playing with the current pupils. I was really pleased they had so many positive memories of their netball at Oakham, and they were excited to be back. I first met Sassy and Hannah on our tour to South Africa in 2017 and they spoke fondly about their experiences there and the matches on tour.”
The Oakhamians also chatted to the alumni and asked them about their time at School, moving into Round House and life beyond Oakham.
Oakham’s netballers are now looking forward to their match on Wednesday 22 September against Nottingham Trent University. The game is an opportunity for the girls to build experience before their Independent Schools Cup game next Tuesday and the County Tournament in November.
Netball is one of Oakham’s major sports in the Spring Term and gives 300 girls the opportunity to represent the School. Preparation for the national competitions begins out of season in the Winter Term with senior players attending strength and conditioning and skills sessions.
