Congratulations to Form 6 pupils Georgina S and Uzma A who were Oakham’s winning team in The Royal Society of Chemistry Analytical challenge this term.
Twenty-one IB Diploma and A-level Chemists took part in the challenge and their task was to analyse ingredients for the qualities that make excellent fish and chips!!
The competition allowed students across the country to demonstrate and expand on their existing chemistry knowledge, skills, and aptitude for analytical science through practical experiments.
The organisers, Northumbria University, said that the quality of all entries was exceptionally high, and the teams should feel very proud of their achievements.
Georgina and Uzma will now be entered into the regional heat to be in with the chance of winning a prize.
In other Chemistry news, Oakham pupils have received awards in the Cambridge Chemistry Challenge. This competition aims to stretch sixth form students, taking them significantly beyond the upper school syllabus and encouraging them to problem solve and think about science in the way they would at university. The Oakham School award winners this year are:
Rory K and Nikolay K who have received a Silver award.
Charlie H, Yufei L, Ansh V, Torah S, Georgina S, George Cand Jan S who received Copper awards.
