Oakham highly commended at MUN Conference
Model United Nations (MUN) students have just returned from a successful MUN Conference held at Cheadle Hulme School, representing India, the Philippines and Jamaica. Oakham had its largest representation in its 14 years of MUN history with 18 delegates confidently advocating their positions. The Conference saw Abbi (Form 7) holding court as a chairperson in the Human Rights Committee and Form 7 pupil Ben winning a prize for his speech.
Laurence Ward, the Lead Teacher of MUN, said:” MUN is a great platform to make clear global connections and our students showed real courage to speak up on a variety of issues ranging from the cost of living crisis, reform of the UN Security Council, Death penalty, misinformation to specific conflicts around the World.”
MUN provides a platform for students to develop skills in speech-writing, debating and lobbying, and to increase their awareness of international politics.
