Oakham School Golf: Winning Streaks and New Initiatives

09th April 2025

Oakham School’s golfers have been delivering standout performances in recent matches, with victories and close contests against some of the region’s top teams.

In a nail-biting National Plate Quarter Final against Wellingborough, the 1st golf team secured a narrow 74-72 victory to earn a place in the semi-finals this May.

At the Lincolnshire Invitational, Oakham clinched an impressive second place on the challenging Bracken Course at Woodhall Spa. Special recognition goes to Fred C, who finished in a well-deserved second place after shooting a superb round of 82.

Oakham’s golfers have triumphed in numerous friendlies, including wins against Uppingham and Luffenham Heath Juniors, as well as a thrilling tie against Bedford. These results highlight the growing strength and depth of the golf programme at Oakham.

The School’s golf programme has also seen success in the annual OO match, with a narrow 4-3 loss. Strong performances came from the younger golfers, with Form 2 and Form 3 boys winning their respective matches, proving the future of Oakham Golf is in great hands.

Oakham’s 1st golf team coach James Cure said: “These results are a testament to the hard work and dedication of our players. It’s exciting to see our senior team performing so strongly, and what’s even more exciting is the depth of talent coming through from our younger years. The future of Oakham golf is looking very bright!”

Next term, Oakham will be launching a new social golf group designed to support the performance group even further. This initiative aims to foster greater participation and provide additional opportunities for golfers of all levels to develop their skills. Training takes place every week at the stunning Luffenham Heath Golf Club, which consistently features in the top 100 courses in England.
