Congratulations to Adam (Form 3) who has been selected to participate in the live National Grand Final of the English-Speaking Unions (ESU) Shakespeare Monologue competition 2021, where he will compete with around 20 other Regional winners.
Every year the Oakham’s Drama Department stages its own Shakespeare (and Modern) Monologue competition ‘Speak the Speech’ and this year the performances were filmed and three of the entries were submitted to the ESU Performing Regional Competition, the results of which were published on 26th May.
Eloise (Form 3) also achieved success receiving a Judges’ Commendation and is Regional runner-up.
A special mention must go to Oakham’s third entrant, Olivia (Form 3), who together with the other performers, made the School’s job of choosing the three to go forward a very difficult one.
David Norell, who organises ‘Speak the Speech’, commented, “Despite having to work online this year the sheer enthusiasm and willingness to work with Shakespeare was pleasing. The fact that some of our students’ performances should be recognised further afield is most gratifying. I hope that the School’s tradition of acting Shakespeare, established here in the Drama Department at Oakham, will long be honoured and that our students’ work will continue to meet with approval from both regional and national Theatre professionals.”
