Old Oakhamian Abigail Mustard (15), Information Officer for the Rutland Osprey Project, has been keeping everyone up-to-date with video commentary and blog posts as part of the Rutland Osprey Home School initiative.
Abigail said, “Right now, it has never been more important to be connected to nature. Osprey Home School is a fantastic initiative set up by the Osprey Education Team, which has lots of free, exciting and interactive nature-related activities for the whole family to enjoy. Whether it is watching the live Osprey Webcam, being fascinated by the mystery of migration, or being captivated by moths, there is something for everyone.”
In addition to the nest cam and blog, each week a new activity is posted – this week’s activity is a ‘Name That Bird’ quiz. All the past activities are free and available to download here, including migration maps, quizzes, pictures for colouring and even osprey-related exercise! Click on the nest cam, to see the new-born chicks get their first taste of the world.
Abigail left Oakham School in 2015 and read Ecology at Aberystwyth University. Having previously volunteered for Leicestershire & Rutland Wildlife Trust, after university she was offered a Trainee Reserve Officer post based at Rutland Water Nature Reserve, where she learned key conservation skills. “It was such a fantastic year, and I highly recommend it to anyone who has an interest in wildlife and wildlife conservation.”
Congratulations, Abigail; keep up the wonderful work!
