Drama students at Oakham School have performed a variety of Shakespearian monologues and sonnets to their parents, peers and teachers in celebration of his most famous works.
As a great way to end the term, 23 thespians came together to share their chosen pieces on stage, with their fine performances enjoyed and assessed by two student judges (previous Bards) together with Poet, Playwright and Screenwriter, James Anthony (author of the Shakespeare Retold series, www.shakespeareretold.com).
James joined pupils in the Queen Elizabeth Theatre as Guest Judge and offered prizes to those students who performed the most memorable performances.
The Judges admitted to having a particularly challenging time this year; the standard of performance was – across the age groups – of the very highest calibre and all are to be warmly congratulated.
Winners are awarded the designation – Messenger, Herald, Orator and Bard – and hold this title for the following year.
David Norell, Teacher of Drama and Acting at Oakham School, said: “We look forward to the next occasion – the fifth year – and hope to hear another wonderful range of the Bard’s works performed to an even larger audience.”
