Oakham U13 girls’ hockey team have been crowned Leicestershire County Champions after a spectacularly successful tournament, winning every game.
The girls played against Robert Smyth, Leicester Grammar, Ratcliffe College, beating Leicester Grammar in the final 3-0.
Director of Hockey, Chris Prosser said, “It was an excellent team performance, the group grew and developed as the day went on and each play contributed towards the success. They now progress to Midlands Finals in March where they compete with the best schools in the Region.”
Further hockey success this season includes the 1st XI boys picking up 7 points from their final three games of the T1 England Hockey Schools Championships, with wins against Denstone College, Norwich School and a draw against Solihull School.
Strong block fixture results against Stowe, Stamford and Bromsgove have also been pleasing. The 3rd XI, U16B U14C and U14D all remain unbeaten so far this term.
Meanwhile, the U16A boys gave two impressive performances in the National Cup bowing out in the 3rd Round.
Individual successes have seen Clara, Lucy and Jessie being selected for the Leicestershire U13 squad. Form 6, Beth and Emily have progressed to the National semi-final with the U18s Leeds Hockey Cub. Libby, Jess and Lucy have also progressed to the National semi-final with the U14 Beeston Hockey Club. Violet has been selected to play for Beeston in the Hockey Premiership.
Elsewhere in Hockey, Old Oakhamian Alex Stadler (’15) won the FIH Hockey Men’s World Cup 2023. Alex was the goalkeeper for the winning German team.
