Upper School Geographers receive talk from Simon Reeve

Head of Geography, Howard Collison, led a group of Upper School geographers to Leicester for a talk given by Simon Reeve.

Simon Reeve’s talk on “End of the Earth” was an incredibly insightful and thought-provoking experience. His ability to captivate the audience with his storytelling, combined with his extensive knowledge of different cultures and landscapes, made for a memorable evening.

Throughout his talk, Simon demonstrated his passion for exploring remote and often troubled corners of the world. His genuine curiosity and desire to understand the people and places he visits were evident in every word he spoke. From war-torn regions to pristine natural landscapes, Simon took pupils on a journey that was both awe-inspiring and educational.

What stood out the most about Simon was his gentle and patient approach. He never shied away from discussing difficult topics including battling issues with his own mental health, but instead, he addressed them with empathy and understanding. This allowed the audience to gain a deeper appreciation for the challenges faced by the communities he encountered during his travels.

In essence, Simon reminded us of the importance of understanding and respecting different cultures, while highlighting the urgent need to address global issues such as climate change and conflict. He also encouraged us to ‘spend more time with nature’ and to ‘green our pension’. It was an enlightening experience that left a lasting impact on all the pupils who attended who will no doubt look forward to his upcoming television series ‘End of the Earth’ which will air next year.
