House spirit continues to shine with pupils in Oakham’s 16 Houses taking part in an array of inter-house competitions.
From competitions that test pupils’ sporting prowess to contests that challenge their mental agility, there has been a wide variety of opportunities for Oakhamians to enjoy friendly rivalries with their peers this term.
The first half of the term saw Middle School pupils take part in the annual Tom Grant Football Festival with Chapmans and Barrow triumphing in the Senior Boys and Junior Boys Tournaments respectively. Meanwhile, Buchanans won both Girls’ tournaments and were the recipients of the Champions League replica trophy.
The Interhouse Steeplechase was held over a number of dates; the Lower School cross country run saw Ancaster and Sargants crowned as overall combined girls and boys winners, whilst in the Middle and Upper School competitions Wharflands won the honour of overall cup winners.
More recently, in the Interhouse Debating Clipsham narrowly beat Barrow to become the winners of the Senior Interhouse Debating Competition with Clipsham opposing the motion “This House would raise the legal age to hold a social media account”. The Spring Term will see the Middle School iteration of the competition.
The Interhouse Rugby Competition saw a win for the PH U13 team, but a victory for the U11 and U12 Sargants teams meant that they triumphed overall.
