Visa Information

• A current passport or other valid travel documentation.
• A Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies (CAS) from Oakham School, your course provider.

This is an electronic document issued by Oakham School to you and is generated for us by UK Visas and Immigration. This provides you with a reference number required for your visas application. The CAS is valid for six months and only for studying at Oakham School.

• You will also need proof or parental or other legal guardian consent which:

Confirms the relationship between the parents and child

Confirms the parents’ permission for the visa application

Confirms the parents’ permission for pupils travel to the UK

Confirms the parents’ permission for the pupil to be a boarder at the Oakham School.

Is signed by both parents, or one if they have sole responsibility over the child.

• £490 for the visa.
• £776 per year for students, so £1,552 for a 2-year visa.

• Proof of funds able pay for the first academic year of the course.

This can be done by either paying the fees for the first academic year in advance (the additional overseas deposit is not included as a part of this) or by bank statement, deposit certificate or bank slip showing you have held enough money to cover the first year of school fees.

• You may be asked to provide tuberculosis (TB) test results.

You can find the conditions for a TB test and a list of countries likely to require a TB certificate (which must be obtained before the visa application) here.

• Your child will need to prove their identity as a part of the application.

How this is done depends on where you are from and what kind of passport your child has. This will either be their biometrics (photographs and fingerprints) taken at a visa application centre, or the ‘UK Immigration: ID check’ app to scan their passport. You will be informed what you will need to do upon applying.

• Please keep the original offer letter of a place at Uppingham and the letter confirming that we have received the Acceptance Form and your Overseas Entry deposit, as useful supporting documents if needed.

There are two possibilities.

A) In the case your child has had their biometrics taken (normally the case outside of the EU):

• They will be issued a BRP card (Biometric Residence Permit), which the card itself will be collected after arrival in the UK.
• You can arrange for the BRP card to Oakham School, your sponsor, in the application. When you are asked for Oakham’s ACL code please put: 3SC682
• The BRP is proof of your child’s right to study in the UK. It must be shown at borders, along with the holder passport, when travelling from and returning to the UK.

B) If your child was asked to use the ‘UK Immigration: ID check’ app to scan their passport (normally the case inside the EU):

• They will get a digital immigration status that can be viewed and proved online.
• To do this, they will require their passport number, date of birth and access to their mobile phone number or email address that were used on the application, so that a code for logging in can be sent to them.
• It is important to know that EU pupils given a digital immigration status should not enter the UK for the purpose of starting Oakham School until the Child Student visa has been received.
